An accurate map needs to be the basis on which all digital experiences within a physical space are built. Not only is the process above time consuming, it also requires specific professionals to accomplish the user output.\",\"nodeType\":\"text\"}],\"nodeType\":\"paragraph\"},{\"data\":{},\"content\":[{\"data\":{},\"marks\":[],\"value\":\"CAD (Computer Aided Design) as a tool has been the basis on which map experiences are created. Unfortunately, CAD is not a user friendly tool, meaning that someone who is proficient with CAD needs to be a part of the ongoing process. Along with CAD professionals, property owners need to have designers who understand how to turn that CAD into a consumer-friendly map across multiple platforms. CAD files include the critical elements of a space (e.g. wall dimensions, electrical, exits, etc.), but don’t incorporate many of the elements that property visitors would be looking for (e.g. amenities, Santa setup for holidays, washroom closed for cleaning, pop-up stores, etc.). Designers need to turn the CAD into a format that’s consumable and that includes information which is relevant to each platform. Because of how they are used, these tools are not designed for quick or minor map changes. In the past, a venue map or CAD file that had been updated within the year was considered up-to-date. A one-year-old map may have been bearable in the past, but these days can be all but rendered useless. Touchscreen maps, venue mobile applications, and QR codes were just some of the ways that visitors could search for a destination indoors. With a solid foundation, you can begin to add flooring and stairs - these act as the pathing networks and wayfinding components of a digital map. You can also begin to add various rooms to the house, each one serving its own purpose. With an indoor mapping platform, these “rooms” would represent unique experiences. For example, retailers may want to layer on proximity promotions, an office may add room booking software, a hospital might enable asset tracking, and a stadium might focus on vendor-to-seat food ordering. As mapping tools, Revit and CAD are commonly used by architects, designers, engineers, and so on. Unfortunately, not anyone can leverage these tools, as they require training to maneuver.
